Show me how to import and export favorites (bookmarks) in Microsoft Internet Explorer 7

Internet Explorer -> Microsoft Internet Explorer 7

Problem: I am moving to a new computer and I don't want to loose all of the favorites (bookmarks) that I've saved on this one.



Exporting Favorites:

  1. Open Microsoft Internet Explorer 7
  2. Click the "Add to Favorites" button (it looks like a star with a "+" sign in front of it)
  3. Click the "Add to Favorites -> Import and Export..." item
  4. On the "Import/Export Wizard" window, click "Next >"
  5. Under "Choose an action to perform.", select "Export Favorites" and click "Next >"
  6. Under "Select which folder you want to export from", select the folder that contains the favorites to be exported (if you want to export ALL of your favorites, simply leave the uppermost "Favorites" folder selected), then click "Next >"
  7. Under "Export to a File or Address", ensure that the export file is going to a location on the hard drive where will be able to find it, then click "Next >"
  8. On the "Completing the Import/Export Wizard" screen, click "Finish"
  9. Click "OK" on the "Export Favorites" pop-up that confirms you have successfully exported your favorites

Importing Favorites:

  1. Open Microsoft Internet Explorer 7
  2. Click the "Add to Favorites" button (it looks like a star with a "+" sign in front of it)
  3. Click the "Add to Favorites -> Import and Export..." item
  4. On the "Import/Export Wizard" window, click "Next >"
  5. Under "Choose an action to perform.", select "Import Favorites" and click "Next >"
  6. Under "Import from a File or Address" use the "Browse..." button to navigate to the file from which you are importing, then click "Next >"
  7. Under "Import Favorites Destination Folder", select the folder into which the favorites will be imported (if you are importing ALL of your favorites into the main directory, simply leave the uppermost "Favorites" folder selected), then click "Next >"
  8. On the "Completing the Import/Export Wizard" screen, click "Finish"
  9. Click "OK" on the "Import Favorites" pop-up that confirms you have successfully imported your favorites
