Show me how to save spreadsheets in a backward compatible format in Microsoft Excel 2007

Excel -> Microsoft Excel 2007

Problem: When I send my Excel 2007 spreadsheets to colleagues with older versions of Excel, they can't open the files. I need to save spreadsheets in a format that is compatible with past versions of Excel.

  1. Open Microsoft Excel 2007
  2. Click the "Office" button (it's the circle with the four multicolored squares in the upper left hand corner of the Excel window)
  3. Mouse over the "Save As" item
  4. Click on "Excel 97-2003 Workbook"
  5. On the "Save As" window, navigate to the desired location and enter a file name in the "File name:" field
  6. Click "Save"
  7. Click the "Office" button
  8. Click the "Excel Options" button
  9. Select the "Save" option on the left navigation
  10. Under the "Save workbooks" section, on the "Save files in this format:" drop-down menu, select "Excel 97-2003 Workbook (*.xls)"
  11. Click "OK"
